Day One

January 8th, 2010 by ninja

For the past weeks Tobin has been consistently using the toilet for his big business and shown various signs that he is ready to be potty trained. Encouraged by the success of Matthias‘ mom, i decided to take the plunge and start “one week of no diapers – no exceptions”. Apparently, that’s all it needs … and of course a whole bunch of pants, mop rags, and a healthy dose of good humor.

Tobin was very enthusiastic about it – especially since each of his big efforts has recently been rewarded by one of these. He tried to get smart though and … well … i had to introduce a smaller reward for smaller efforts. Overall balance of day one: 25+ successful trips to the potty. 5 accidents. So far, so good … wish us luck!

Jeeun: it’s supposed to be easier with girls. Far less accidents, on average.
Mika was a tough nut: she didn’t want to let go of her diaper even after figuring out the potty at age 2. Clung to diapers for another 9 months. Two weeks before she started pre-school (potty training required!), she decided to switch to underwear. By then, she was SO ready that she didn’t miss once … even dropped diapers at night soon after. I guess i got lucky after all, but those 9 months of resistance were nerve racking!

Go Tobin! I’ve been sitting a potty in the bathroom next to the toilet to see if Roman would be curious, but alas, he just flings it around like a new toy. Good luck! But it already sounds like he’s on his way.. :)

It’s so cute, he looks like “super man” in his underwear! And I can tell how much he proud of himself in the big boy underwear.
Sango go the potty, but she thinks that is the toy that she can take apart and re-assemble…
