Transformation

April 20th, 2010 by ninja

Over the course of more than five months, we finally got a bunk bed for the kids. It’s a nice bed, but i can highly discourage everybody from purchasing anything from Nurseryworks: after an unexpected lead time of over 4 months (!), we got several damaged components in the first delivery attempt and had to make half the bunk work as a twin bed, while temporarily upgrading Tobin from crib to Mika’s toddler bed (picture 2). Today, the replacement units arrived (some with different damages) and it finally came together enough to be assembled: Mika moved into the top bunk and Tobin got his first night in the lower bunk. Good thing he’s well enough that he won’t throw up all over it…

    Of course :)
Last night he slept on the toddler mattress and we stuffed the edges around it. Today his own twin mattress arrives and we’ll install a temporary rail as well. Didn’t dare order his mattress ahead of time because the history of problems with this order…

    Worst. Retail. Experience. Ever.

The story isn’t even over yet, as the lid of the top bunk storage unit – which was a replacement for last months broken unit already – came with one broken and one missing hinge. One of the bottom drawers still needs to get replaced, and the whole thing was ordered (and paid for!) 5+ months ago.

On many occasions i wished we would’ve just gone down the IKEA path again, but clearly this bed is more beautiful … and more useful thanks to all the cabinets and shelves in the side.

HOT DAMN that is one fine looking kids room. You will (hopefully) forget about the ardor in the long run. Well done dear Ninja.

Nice looking bunk! Sorry about the drama– I can relate with our past woes of damaged furniture. Totally sucks. Hope they clear it up you properly and soon!

BTW– Roman has the same drawers from BluDot :)
