Sitzenmachen!

Mondays are our shuttle days to- and from German school: i am driving the distance from the Columbia Waterfront to Prospect Heights (or reverse) a total of six times. To make commuting a little easier, we started to car pool with Lily. At least the afternoon run will only be every other week going forward. Today, Lily was riding with us and we arrived a little ahead of time … which gave the kids a chance to goof around in the back row. (I am almost always ready to take a picture, but not while i am driving … nor would i let them hang sideways in their seat belts!)

In case anybody is confused by the headline, it’s a quote from my dad’s and my favorite Billy Wilder comedy, “One, Two, Three“.
In a running gag, the main character MacNamara (an American Coca Cola executive in post war Berlin) storms through the main office floor, causing all German employees to pipe up in their seats immediately. Annoyed with their obedient attention, he barks the order SITZENMACHEN! – which is an incorrect version of the German HINSETZTEN! (= SIT DOWN!)).
I tried to find the original scene of the movie, but only came across the translated version which – at least – gets the key word right.
