Fly Pumper

July 17th, 2010 by ninja

Mika has been constantly working on arts & craft projects since she learned to use scissors at less than 3 years of age. Lately, she’s ventured more and more into 3-D creations. Tape and plain paper are the materials of her choice, and she’s built countless masks, glasses, little cups, houses, and mail boxes. Her output is so frequent, that we don’t even pay too much attention to the individual object anymore – except for today: she had misplaced her pink balloon pump and quietly manufactured a new one entirely out of paper. With moving parts.

Really impressive!! So she made that out of memory?

Yes, she did. I helped her locate the original pump after she showed us her paper copy (which is almost to scale).

I’m unsure now – always thought she was headed for a life in art! Is there an engineer lurking inside that sweet little head?

So far, Math didn’t speak to her … but she has a great intuitive handle on all things three-dimensional.
It’ll be fun to look back at her interests as a 5-year old when she is all grown up and choosing an actual career path … which may not have anything to do with either art or engineering ;-)
