Cookie Elves (Choo Choo Edition)

December 21st, 2010 by ninja

A few weeks ago, the Choo Choo kids were studying grains and learning where flour is coming from. This gave me the idea to bring in my old grain mill that can turn hardy oat groats into tender oatmeal. To make the experience worthwhile, we turned our freshly made oatmeal into delicious oatmeal cookies … crunchy on the outside, and chewy in the center. Tobin’s class has one cooking project every week, so i had 24 eager kitchen elves to help with every step. It takes about twice as long as expected, but is infinitely more fun than baking alone.

You’re awesome. I remember how much fun it was though when I made linguine from scratch with the kids, and sauce, and we had it for lunch. Massive effort, lots of fun, and at least I think it was as satisfying for them as it was for me!

I remember that! Processing pasta has the same kitchen magic as processing oatmeal … they all loved cranking the machine and watching it change the food in front of their eyes! But you guys had to make TWO components, dough and sauce … that must have taken 2 hours ;-)
