Project Dickkopf

January 31st, 2012 by ninja

Dickkopf (Big Head) was one of my all time favorite stuffed animals growing up. He was a gift from my grandmother, and i still remember how he arrived: in a shipping tube, only white paws visible after i popped open the lid. When i pulled the paws, long blue arms extended … for a while … until his big head emerged with an audible “plop”. We were inseparable for a few years, and he earned his spot in the exclusive club of retired (but not discarded) childhood toys at my parents’ house. Last spring, i decided to move him to New York and Mika instantly fell in love with him. She is convinced that he keeps her nightmares away, and has kept him in her bed ever since. Unfortunately, his material is a few decades old and the main body section started to fall apart beyond repair. Mood to the rescue, i was able to find a fabric that closely matched his original pattern, and sewed him a brand new midsection. He hasn’t looked this young in a while…

Was looking for a photo of Tobin in the hat you gave Otto and stumbled on this – amazing! What awesome shoes you have on the airplane too. So adorable.
